Shake!FM Interview mit Busty And The Bass
Michel
Hi guys, !
Many thanks for your time and your music! !!Canada has an interesting music scene. A lot of cool well known artists like Kaytranada and less known like Slakah The Beatchild or rapper D.O.. come from Canada.
It’s a more funky sound which Canada exports. Can you explain why?
Busty And The Bass
I can only speak to our experience, but we have found that Canada and Montreal specifically is an incredible melting pot of musical styles and influences, with a big focus on live shows.
Michel
Nowadays EDM and Tropical House is all over the globe. One producer , one singer. That’s all. Every label seems to push every artist into that category.
Did you had to fight to come up as a nine head band or did you had more support from labels, bookers or managements?
Busty And The Bass
The fight was that much harder. As a 9-piece, everyone pigeoned-holed us for a funk-jam party. People forgot that a big band is capable of creating and producing music that can touch on all the same elements that solo artists are pushing.
With our first album now out, we can only hope that we have successfully pushed beyond the expectation that the industry set for us when they first heard of Busty.
For every solo artist on a picture with a single color panel behind them, there’s 10 people behind the scenes who helped them get the music, imaging and product to that point. We can sit proudly as 9 people in every picture, showing the world the team that got us here rather than the single face that people can remember. We’re a team and despite the uphill battle we still face, the fact that we are a 9-piece has given us the built in support that it will take to achieve the goals we set out for ourselves.
Michel
What is your experience?
Can this younger generation of music fans relate to funk and soulful music nowadays when charts are full of commercial electro dance or trap stuff?
Busty And The Bass
Absolutely. Just look at the trend of modern music and the music that is catching the attention of the mainstream. People from Chance The Rapper to Kendrick Lamar has brought their own flavor of jazz and funk into their styles of hip hop. Even Bruno Mars who seems to always have a song at the top of the charts is driving funk influenced pop music forward. The younger generation might not know it yet, but they don’t only relate to the styles that influence the music we make but they subconsciously prefer it.
People just need the right context to discover and digest music outside their normal listening patterns.
Michel
What is the next goal you want to achieve as a band?
A major label deal? A chart breaker?
Busty And The Bass
We want the ability to continue living off of and making music to our tastes. The goal is autonomy. The ultimate goal for us as artists is the freedom to pursue whatever inspires us in the moment, and the resources to make that vision possible.
We would also like to be the first band on the moon… !!
Michel
What is the most annoying situation you ever had as a band? Lost equipment? Missing band members?
Busty And The Bass
I’m not sure if this was the most “annoying” situation, but once our van exploded on the side of a highway in British Columbia, Canada. No one was injured, but that was quite a time…
Michel
Last question though.
Is a brass section the topping with a cherry in 2017 which blows all away or how would you define the speciality of Busty and the bass?
Busty And The Bass
We are a vibe – one that is meant to lift your spirits and also support you in the lower moments.
Our album goes through a crazy spectrum of genre and mood, and that is where we excel. In an era where a lot of albums curate one specific, consistent emotional vibe, we differentiate ourselves by how we can take our music anywhere.
Michel
Thank your for time! Keep the groove goin on strong!
